Who Was Priscilla

Priscilla, often mentioned alongside her husband Aquila, was a Jewish Christian who played a pivotal role in the growth of the early church. She and Aquila are introduced in Acts 18 when the apostle Paul meets them in Corinth. They had been forced to leave Rome because of Emperor Claudius’ edict expelling Jews from the city, and they settled in Corinth as tentmakers, a trade they shared with Paul.

Priscilla and Aquila served as co laborers with Paul, strengthening the church through work, ministry, and faithful presence.

See Acts 18:2 to 3

Their relationship with Paul grew into deep partnership in the gospel. They did not only travel and serve. They opened their home as a place where believers gathered, learned, and grew. Their house became a meeting place for the church.

Priscilla’s Wisdom in Discipleship

One of the most powerful moments in Priscilla’s story is her role in helping Apollos. Apollos was a gifted speaker and teacher, but his understanding of the gospel was incomplete. Instead of correcting him publicly, Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. That moment was not about proving someone wrong. It was about strengthening someone for greater effectiveness.

They took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

A quiet mark of maturity
Correction becomes powerful when it is rooted in love, wisdom, and the desire to build, not embarrass.
Priscilla models discipleship that protects dignity while strengthening truth.

Partnership That Strengthens the Church

Priscilla’s ministry is consistently mentioned alongside Aquila, showing unity in purpose and consistency in service. Their partnership reminds us that God often multiplies impact through teamwork. In a culture where women were often overlooked, Priscilla’s name is repeatedly honored, showing that God uses men and women together to build His church.

Priscilla’s Legacy

Priscilla’s legacy is one of wisdom, leadership, hospitality, and discipleship. Her faithfulness helped shape leaders like Apollos and strengthened communities through the opening of her home. Paul later greeted Priscilla and Aquila with deep honor, acknowledging their sacrifice and the church that met in their house.

Paul honors Priscilla and Aquila as fellow workers and recognizes the church that gathered in their home.

See Romans 16:3 to 5

Partnership and hospitality are not extras. They are part of how the early church grew strong.

Applying Priscilla’s Story Today

Priscilla’s life gives us a blueprint for spiritual impact in everyday life. Partner well. Teach faithfully. Correct with humility. Create space for community. Ministry does not always happen on a platform. Sometimes it happens at the table, in conversation, in mentoring, and in quiet consistency.

What We Can Learn from Priscilla

  • Wisdom strengthens others when it is shared with humility.
  • Partnership multiplies impact and builds stability in ministry.
  • Discipleship is a responsibility, not a title.
  • Hospitality creates space for spiritual growth and community.
  • Serving together is often how God expands influence.
