Walking with the Women in the Bible: Mary, The Mother of Jesus – A Woman of Humility and Grace
Mary, a young Jewish woman from the small town of Nazareth, was chosen by God for one of the most extraordinary roles in history—to be the mother of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. In Luke 1:26-38, we read about the moment when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced that she would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Sarah, A Journey of Faith and Promise
Sarah, originally named Sarai, was the wife of Abraham and one of the key figures in the unfolding story of God’s covenant with His people. When we first meet Sarah in Genesis 11:30, we learn that she was barren, unable to have children—a heartbreaking reality in a time when a woman’s worth was often measured by her ability to bear children.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Priscilla, A Woman of Wisdom and Partnership
Priscilla, often mentioned alongside her husband Aquila, was a Jewish Christian who played a pivotal role in the early Christian church. She and Aquila are first introduced in Acts 18:2-3, when Paul meets them in Corinth. The couple had been forced to leave Rome due to Emperor Claudius’ edict expelling Jews from the city, and they had settled in Corinth as tentmakers, a trade they shared with Paul. This initial connection with Paul grew into a deep friendship and partnership in ministry.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Miriam, A Prophetess of Courage and Leadership
Miriam first appears in the Bible in the book of Exodus, and from the very beginning, her courage and quick thinking are evident. As the older sister of Moses, she watched over him when he was placed in a basket on the Nile River to escape Pharaoh’s decree that all Hebrew baby boys be killed.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Deborah, A Woman of Courage and Leadership
Deborah’s story is one that teaches us about leadership, faithfulness, and the boldness required to carry out God’s plan. Let’s explore her life and discover the lessons we can learn from her journey.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Mary Magdalene, A Woman of Devotion and Transformation
Mary Magdalene is first introduced in the Gospels as a woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons (Luke 8:2). Her life, once tormented and broken, was radically changed by her encounter with Jesus, and she became one of His most devoted followers. Mary, likely from the town of Magdala, was part of a group of women who traveled with Jesus and supported His ministry financially (Luke 8:2-3).
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Esther, A Woman of Courage and Purpose
Esther’s story is found in the book that bears her name, and it begins with a remarkable twist of fate. Born as Hadassah, an orphaned Jewish girl, she was raised by her cousin Mordecai in the Persian city of Susa. At a time when the Jewish people were living in exile, Esther’s life took an unexpected turn when King Xerxes of Persia chose her to be his queen, not knowing that she was Jewish.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Rachel and Leah, Sisters in Rivalry and Redemption
Rachel and Leah were the daughters of Laban and the wives of Jacob. Their story begins in Genesis 29, when Jacob falls in love with Rachel, the younger of the two sisters. Jacob agrees to work for seven years to marry Rachel, but on the wedding night, Laban deceives him and gives him Leah, the older sister, instead. Jacob is devastated by this betrayal but agrees to work another seven years to marry Rachel as well.
Walking with the Women in the Bible: Hannah, A Woman of Deep Prayer and Faith
Hannah’s story is found in 1 Samuel, and it begins with heartbreak. She was one of two wives of Elkanah, but while the other wife, Peninnah, had children, Hannah remained barren. In ancient times, childbearing was a significant marker of a woman’s worth, and for Hannah, this barrenness brought great pain and shame. On top of that, Peninnah taunted her cruelly, adding insult to injury (1 Samuel 1:6-7).
Walking with The Women of the Bible: Rebekah, The Woman Who Helped Shape a Nation
Rebekah’s story begins with God’s divine plan. In Genesis 24, we are introduced to her as a young woman from the city of Nahor, in Mesopotamia. She is chosen by God to be the wife of Isaac, the son of Abraham, through a remarkable act of divine intervention.
Walking With the Women of The Bible: Eve, The First Woman
Eve, the first woman, was created by God Himself. We’re told in Genesis that God formed Eve from Adam’s rib to be his partner, someone who would stand by him as his equal and helpmate. She was placed in the Garden of Eden—a paradise where she walked in a perfect relationship with God and her husband. Everything was as it should be. But as we know, this ideal peace didn’t last.
Walking with the Women of the Bible: Ruth, A Story of Loyalty & Faith
Ruth’s story is one of the most beautiful love stories in the Bible—but it’s not just about romance. It’s about loyalty, faith, and the power of a decision to follow God when the future looks uncertain. Ruth was a Moabite woman, an outsider to Israel. She lost her husband, which meant she also lost her security, her status, and her future—at least in the eyes of the world.
