What’s Your Spiritual Gift? Start Your Journey with These Powerful Tools!
In my most recent blog post, I discussed the powerful truth that spiritual gifts come from God alone. These gifts aren’t just talents or skills—they’re God-given abilities designed to make an impact in His Kingdom. Each one of us has gifts meant to serve, encourage, and strengthen others, but have you ever wondered what yours might be? For me, the journey to discovering and understanding my gifts has been an adventure of faith, one that’s constantly unfolding.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been a dreamer. Growing up, I didn’t fully understand the significance of my dreams, but in my early 20s, God started to reveal that they were more than just nighttime thoughts—they were part of a spiritual gift. Over time, with prayer, guidance, and encouragement, God continued to unveil more gifts I hadn’t realized I had. Recently, through prophecies spoken over me and a deeper exploration of my purpose, I’ve felt called to fully embrace these gifts and nurture them with intention.
One of the most impactful experiences in my journey was attending a class focused on nurturing spiritual gifts. This class reinforced something powerful: our gifts aren’t meant to be kept stagnant or hidden. They need to be “stirred up”continuously so that they grow and remain effective. Here are some of the practices I’ve found essential for nurturing my gifts, and they may help you as well:
Daily Scripture Reading: The Bible is like a map, guiding us to understand and steward our gifts in alignment with God’s will. Spending time in God’s Word helps us stay connected to the source of our gifts, grounding us in His wisdom and purpose.
Fasting and Prayer: Fasting and prayer help sharpen our spiritual senses, allowing us to draw closer to God and seek His guidance more clearly. These practices refine our focus, helping us to better understand how God wants us to use our gifts.
Mentorship and Community: There is something so powerful about being surrounded by others who share or understand your gift. Finding a mentor who recognizes and values your gifts can provide the guidance you need. Equally important is finding a “tribe”—a church community or support group where you feel seen, understood, and encouraged.
Continuous Learning: Just like any skill, our spiritual gifts need to be cultivated. Reading books, taking courses, and exploring resources on spiritual gifts can deepen our understanding, giving us fresh insights and new ways to apply what God has given us.
For those who may not have figured out their gifts or are seeking confirmation, remember that God is the ultimate revealer of our gifts. Start by seeking Him directly—pray for clarity and revelation. And if you’re connected to a church, consider speaking with a pastor or trusted mentor who might help bring further insight.
Additionally, some wonderful tools can help you gain perspective on your spiritual gifts. Recently, I used a couple of online assessments that revealed insights I found truly valuable.
Here are two that I recommend:
Giftstest.com: This assessment gave me an outcome that aligned closely with what I already knew about my gifts. It helped validate areas where I felt strong confirmation.
Team Ministry Gifts Test: This assessment surprised me by revealing strengths I hadn’t initially considered, yet when I reflected on my career, I could see how these gifts had been in use all along.
Clarity On Your Calling with God: This devotional is designed to help you seek clarity and direction in discovering your unique calling and purpose in life. Whether you're at a crossroads, seeking a career change, or simply desiring a deeper understanding of God's plan for your life, this journey is for you. Use during your fasting and praying.
Using these options was enlightening! They gave me a fresh look at how God may be using me in ways I hadn’t fully appreciated. So, here’s my invitation to you: try one of these assessments, download the digital journal, pray for guidance, and embrace the journey of discovering your unique gifts. I’d love to hear what you uncover—feel free to share your results in the comments. Hearing how God is working in each of our lives is truly inspiring.
