Spiritual Gifts Come from God Alone

In my most recent post, I shared a truth that keeps everything in perspective: spiritual gifts come from God alone. These gifts are not just skills you picked up along the way. They are God given abilities designed to serve, encourage, and strengthen others. They are assignments. They are stewardship. And they matter because they reflect how God wants to work through you for His purposes.

Many people believe that spiritual gifts are only for leaders or “super spiritual” believers. But the reality is that every believer is invited into a life empowered by the Holy Spirit. Your gifts are not accidental. God already knows what He placed in you. The journey is learning how to recognize it, nurture it, and use it faithfully.

My Journey of Discovery Began with Dreams

As far back as I can remember, I have always been a dreamer. Growing up, I did not fully understand what my dreams meant. I assumed they were simply part of my imagination or normal nighttime thoughts. But in my early twenties, God began to show me that my dreams were not random. They were connected to a spiritual gift.

Over time, through prayer, guidance, and encouragement, God continued unveiling more gifts I did not realize I had. Recently, through prophecies spoken over me and a deeper exploration of purpose, I have felt a strong call to embrace these gifts fully and nurture them with intention. This is something I want for you too: not confusion, not guessing, but growth, clarity, and confidence in God’s direction.

A reminder for your journey
Discovery often happens in layers. God confirms, reveals, and strengthens your gifting over time as you stay close to Him.
You are not late. You are being led.

Why Gifts Must Be Stirred Up

One of the most impactful parts of my journey was attending a class focused on nurturing spiritual gifts. It reinforced something powerful: our gifts are not meant to remain stagnant or hidden. They need to be stirred up continually so they grow and remain effective.

“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.”

2 Timothy 1:6

Think of a flame. Fire does not stay strong without fuel. In the same way, spiritual gifts can become dormant when they are ignored. Neglect can lead to doubt, confusion, and even fear of stepping out. But when you nurture your gifts, you grow in discernment, confidence, and spiritual effectiveness.

Practices That Help Nurture Spiritual Gifts

Here are practices I have found essential for nurturing spiritual gifts. If you want your gifts to remain active, pure, and purposeful, these are foundations you can build on.

Daily Scripture reading
The Bible is like a map. Spending time in God’s Word keeps you connected to the source of your gifts and helps you steward them in alignment with His will and His character.
Fasting and prayer
Fasting and prayer sharpen spiritual sensitivity. They help quiet distractions so you can hear God more clearly and follow His direction with greater focus.
Mentorship and community
It helps to be surrounded by people who understand gifting and spiritual growth. Mentorship provides guidance. Community provides encouragement. A healthy tribe helps you stay accountable and supported.
Continuous learning
Gifts grow with stewardship. Books, courses, and resources on spiritual gifts can deepen understanding and give language to what God is doing in you.

Start with God, Then Look for Confirmation

If you are seeking clarity on your gifts, remember this: God is the ultimate revealer. Begin with prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom, confirmation, and discernment. If you are connected to a local church, consider talking with a pastor or a trusted mentor who can help you process what you are sensing and seeing.

Sometimes you already have evidence of your gifts in your life. Patterns show up in what people consistently come to you for, what burdens you carry, what you notice quickly, and what brings spiritual fruit when you serve. Prayer and community help bring those patterns into focus.

Two Tools That Can Help You Identify Your Gifts

Along with prayer and community, online assessments can help you gain perspective and language for your gifting. These tools are not replacements for the Holy Spirit, but they can help you notice patterns and confirm strengths you may already be walking in.

Assessment
Giftstest.com
This assessment gave me an outcome that aligned closely with what I already understood about my gifts. It helped validate areas where I felt strong confirmation.
Assessment
Team Ministry Gifts Test
This assessment surprised me by revealing strengths I had not initially considered. When I reflected on my career, I could see how these gifts had been in use all along.
Devotional
Clarity On Your Calling with God
A devotional designed to help you seek clarity and direction in discovering your unique calling and purpose. Use it during seasons of fasting and prayer to stay focused and intentional.

Your Next Step: Begin the Journey

Using these options was enlightening for me. They gave me a fresh look at how God may be using me in ways I had not fully appreciated. So here is my invitation to you: try one of these assessments, spend time in prayer for guidance, and commit to the journey of discovering and stewarding your gifts.

If you do, I would love to hear what you uncover. Share your results in the comments. Hearing how God is working in each of our lives is inspiring, and it builds faith for others who are still searching.
