DAY 13 STUDY FOUNDATION Understand • Examine • Pray

Theme and Biblical Context

Theme

Removing divided allegiance from the household by examining teraphim, family gods, images used devotionally, charms, shrines, inherited spiritual practices, ancestor invocation, superstition, hidden idols, and the deeper idols of the heart while consecrating the home to Jesus Christ.

Why Household Idols and Teraphim Matter

Genesis records household gods or teraphim in family settings. Judges 17 and 18 describe domestic religious objects and unauthorized worship. Ezekiel 21:21 connects teraphim with divination, while Zechariah 10:2 says teraphim speak deceit. Genesis 35 gives a strong household response: put away foreign gods, purify yourselves, and return to God.

Biblically Documented

Scripture records teraphim or household gods, graven images, domestic shrines, divination through teraphim, foreign gods within households, and idols set up in the heart. Scripture repeatedly calls God's people to remove rival worship and serve Him alone.

Important Distinction

The Bible condemns worship, service, spiritual dependence, divination, and devotion directed toward images or objects. It does not teach that every photograph, sculpture, artwork, piece of jewelry, heirloom, historical artifact, or decorative object is automatically an idol.

Modern Heart Examination

Modern applications include household shrines, spiritually used charms, lucky objects, ancestor invocation, occult household rituals, inherited spiritual objects, family pressure to participate in rival worship, fear of removing objects, superstitious protection practices, and possessions or traditions that become idols of the heart.

Biblical Associations and Personal Examination

Household Idols and Objects

  • Teraphim and household gods
  • Graven, carved, and molten images used for worship
  • Household shrines and domestic altars
  • Charms, talismans, amulets, and lucky objects used spiritually
  • Objects used for divination or supernatural guidance
  • Inherited religious objects kept through fear or spiritual obligation
  • Offerings, incense, candles, food, or gifts intentionally given to spirits
  • Objects that began legitimately but later became idols

Family, Tradition, and Hidden Idols

  • Family traditions that conflict with allegiance to Christ
  • Ancestor invocation and household spirit consultation
  • Syncretism and mixing Christian worship with other powers
  • Fear of family rejection when obeying God
  • Secret practices or objects hidden from family members
  • Superstitious household rituals and fear based routines
  • Idolatry of family, heritage, property, possessions, and tradition
  • Idols of the heart that remain after physical objects are removed

Heart Examination Questions

  1. Do I possess any object that I actually pray to, invoke, petition, bow before, or treat as spiritually powerful?
  2. Have I kept charms, talismans, household gods, shrines, or protective objects because I fear what will happen if I remove them?
  3. Have I used an object, image, pendulum, board, symbol, or ritual tool to obtain supernatural guidance or answers?
  4. Have I participated in family traditions that involve worship, offerings, invocation, divination, or spiritual dependence upon another power?
  5. Have I prayed to, petitioned, or sought spiritual intervention from deceased ancestors?
  6. Have I hidden spiritual objects or practices from family members because I knew they conflicted with my faith?
  7. Have I mixed Christian prayer with charms, ancestral practices, divination, household gods, or other spiritual systems?
  8. Has an inherited object become spiritually controlling because of fear, sentimentality, or family pressure?
  9. Am I treating ordinary artwork, photographs, cultural items, or decorative objects as though they are automatically dangerous even though I have never used them spiritually?
  10. What idols remain in my heart even if every physical object is removed?
  11. What does the Holy Spirit want me to confess, remove, stop practicing, correct, or consecrate today?

DAY 13 SCRIPTURE SPOKEN WARFARE PRAYER

Household Idols, Teraphim, Graven Images, Hidden Idols, Family Idols, and Traditions

Pray slowly and aloud. Pause wherever the Holy Spirit brings a household object, inherited item, family tradition, shrine, charm, divination practice, ancestor practice, superstitious routine, hidden object, or idol of the heart to your attention. Scripture is woven directly into each prayer section.

Set Aside Focused Time: Allow approximately 90 minutes to two hours, or longer as the Holy Spirit leads. Prepare bread and a cup before beginning so Holy Communion can be taken during the designated section in remembrance of Jesus Christ.
Pray With Holy Aggression: Only the gold commands are written for intentional sevenfold repetition. This is a devotional prayer pattern, not a magical formula. Authority comes from Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and the finished work of the cross. These commands are directed against spiritual bondage and never against people, families, cultures, ordinary possessions, or harmless objects.

According to Joshua 24, I choose this day whom I will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

According to Exodus 20, I will have no other gods before You. I will not bow down to or serve an image, object, spirit, ancestor, household god, or created thing.

I consecrate my home, family, rooms, possessions, traditions, memories, inherited objects, spiritual practices, and household decisions to Jesus Christ.

Let every place in my home become a place of truth, peace, prayer, wisdom, holiness, hospitality, and worship of You alone. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Father, I repent for every place where I gave an object, image, symbol, tradition, person, family practice, possession, or spiritual object a place of trust, reverence, dependence, or devotion that belongs to You.

According to Ezekiel 14, expose every idol I have set up in my heart.

Forgive every time I kept something because I feared what might happen if I removed it, because I wanted supernatural protection, because family pressure was strong, or because sentiment became greater than obedience.

Pray and Repeat With Holy AggressionEvery door I personally opened through household idolatry, hidden idols, divided allegiance, superstition, and spiritual dependence on objects: CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW! CLOSE NOW!

Cleanse my heart and make my devotion wholehearted. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I put on the breastplate of righteousness and lift the shield of faith against fear that an object, symbol, family tradition, or household practice has greater authority than You.

I receive the helmet of salvation and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Pray and Repeat With Holy AggressionEvery stronghold exalting household idols, hidden objects, family traditions, superstition, and divided worship above Christ: COME DOWN! COME DOWN! COME DOWN! COME DOWN! COME DOWN! COME DOWN! COME DOWN!

According to Ephesians 5, expose the unfruitful works of darkness.

According to Zechariah 10, teraphim speak deceit and diviners see false visions.

According to Mark 7, human tradition must never nullify obedience to God.

Show me which traditions are harmless cultural practices and which ones genuinely involve worship, spiritual dependence, divination, invocation, or devotion contrary to Christ.

Pray and Repeat With Holy AggressionEvery family tradition I personally continued that competes with allegiance to Jesus Christ: BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW!

Teach me to honor people without participating in idolatry. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Give me wisdom to speak respectfully, avoid unnecessary offense, maintain healthy relationships where possible, and still obey You.

Pray and Repeat With Holy AggressionEvery snare of family pressure, fear of rejection, and people pleasing that keeps me tied to idolatrous practices: BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW! BREAK NOW!

Scripture foundation: Luke 22:19 to 20; First Corinthians 10:16 to 21; First Corinthians 11:23 to 29

Need Communion Elements?

Holy Communion may be taken with simple bread or an unleavened cracker and grape juice. Those who prefer individually prepared Communion cups and wafers may use the optional resource below.

View Communion Elements

The elements themselves do not create freedom or forgiveness. Communion is taken reverently in remembrance of Jesus Christ.

Prepare the bread and the cup. Take Holy Communion during this prayer if you are able to do so reverently and with biblical understanding.

Father, I come to the Lord's table in repentance, faith, forgiveness, and remembrance of Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus, I take the bread in remembrance of Your body given for me. My household, identity, worship, and family life belong to You.

Take the bread.

According to Luke 22, the cup represents the new covenant in Your blood. According to First Corinthians 10, I reject divided spiritual fellowship and every contrary spiritual allegiance.

Take the cup.

I receive the cup in remembrance of Jesus Christ and proclaim His death until He comes. Jesus Christ alone is Lord over me and my household.

I seal this prayer in the finished work of Jesus Christ, not as a magical formula, but in obedient remembrance of Him. In Jesus' name. Amen.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

No regrouping. No retaliation. No reattachment. No transfer. No replacement. No reinforcement.

I belong completely to Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.
